Conference Information

Conference Schedule

Here are a few of the aspects of VolMUN that make our conference unique:

  • Crisis committees. VolMUN IX is the first iteration of the conference that puts equal focus on crisis and general assembly committees. Crisis puts a greater focus on individuality and creative writing in addition to incorporating the aspects of General Assembly committees that make Model UN what it is. For more information, consult the “Gunboat Diplomacy” crisis guide in the Helpful Resources section of the VolMUN website.

  • GA Crisis. In addition to passing resolutions, delegates in General Assembly committees will occasionally receive “crisis updates”. These updates will present problems relating to the committee that have to be solved immediately. No preparation is required for this aspect of committee, and delegates will not be informed when the crisis updates will happen. The idea is to see how quickly delegates can think on their feet and respond to realistic scenarios while staying in character as the country they are representing.

  • Parliamentary Procedure. VolMUN uses an entirely original form of Parli-Pro that we have spent the past decade refining. It combines elements of traditional YMCA MUN and the more relaxed version of Parli-Pro encountered at collegiate MUN competitions. Check out “Parliamentary Procedure at VolMUN: A Comprehensive Guide” in the Helpful Resources section of the website to learn about how this works in detail. If you want a more behind-the-scenes look into how committees are run, the script we give our chairs during training is linked below the guide.
